I’ve been Spotified

May 26, 2009

In case you haven’t already discovered it, Spotify is the best thing since Amazon MP3.

The downsides:

Occasional adverts, but nowhere near as frequent or annoying as any radio station I’ve ever heard. (I usually wake up to Radio 1, which obviously doesn’t have adverts, but A LOT of talking between songs).

Streaming rather than downloading means I can’t listen on my iPod.

The upsides:

Unlike radio, you get to choose every song.

You get to hear whole songs for free.

So I can listen to whole albums, not just 30-second previews of songs, before I buy. (YouTube is also useful for this, but a pain for listening to more than one song at a time/making playlists)

So I can listen to all the albums I’m not sure if I want to spend money on yet. (So far these have included albums by Fleet Foxes, Maccabees, Parliament, Graham Coxon, Relient K, Polly Scattergood, Damien Rice, Empire Of The Sun, Adele, and John Frusciante.)

Then there’s the ones I can’t quite bring myself to actually own (like Kate Voegele, Taylor Swift, McFly, Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera).

Why Facebook Is Good For Revision

May 14, 2009

So I was recorded as saying today that “I think facebook is better than spending time with people in real life.”

Just thought I’d write a quick note to explain what I meant.

When I’m revising (or working on my third year project as I have been doing recently), I work better on my own.

So I think it’s better for productivity to spend time on facebook than actually talking to people – LET ME FINISHbecause facebook gets boring pretty quickly, meaning I get back to work (or at least pretending to work) pretty quickly, whereas if I’m with people face to face, it stays interesting for much longer, meaning less work gets done.

Having said that, I’ve spent far too much time on facebook, particularly the last couple of weeks, so I think I’m gonna start strictly limiting how much time I spend on there. My project gets handed in tomorrow, so I don’t need to worry so much about getting work done, I can talk lots to real people, and distract them from their revision.

9021-D’oh!

May 5, 2009

Apparently if you want a lot of page views for your blog, the thing to do is write about TV shows.

3 of my top 5 posts are TV related.

Save Chuck rocketed to the top position within a day, pretty much doubling my peak viewing figures in the process, while my Week In TV (where I commented on 24, Lost, and Heroes) and Shamone, Shaheen (Britain’s Got Talent) are also up there.

It seems you don’t even have to say anything that interesting about the shows either.

Did anyone else think that this week’s Simpsons and Family Guy episodes were quite similar?

There was Waverly Hills 9021-D’oh which was about Miley Cyrus, and We Love You Conrad, about Lauren Conrad.

We’ve also recently had Lisa on happy pills and Stewie on steroids.

I’ve never watched 90210 or The Hills, and I had never heard of Lauren Conrad before, but I liked the way they didn’t just completely rip it out of her. Yes a lot of famous people are annoying, especially the ones who haven’t really done anything to get famous, but they’re still people.

The Hunt For Gollum

April 30, 2009

This looks quite cool.

Some Lord of the Rings fans couldn’t wait for The Hobbit so made their own film based on Tolkien’s Appendices. It’s set in the time between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring.

They made this on a budget of £3000.

So I guess the question is: what do people like Peter Jackson spend all that money on?

(I guess to be fair people probably don’t work for him for free, but still)

Face

March 30, 2009
indeed

indeed

If you’ve read About Raps Then Jives you may remember that I’ve given up facebook for Lent.

I said from the beginning that I would still get the email notifications and reply to anything important. (Oh yeah, I also sent out my new mobile number using facebook as it’s significantly cheaper than sending text messages to everyone.)

I wasn’t actually having much difficulty staying away from the ‘book, until on Saturday when someone sent me a message to ask if I’m planning to go to Aber (which I am), while replying I couldn’t help noticing I’ve been tagged in a video and lots of people have commented on it, that was difficult not to look at, but I managed to resist the temptation, it can wait a couple more weeks.

What’s worse is that a friend I haven’t seen in years and have lost contact with in the real world has suddenly decided to try and contact me on facebook - Bryan if you’re somehow reading this, please don’t be offended that I haven’t replied.

TWIT-ter

March 25, 2009

Article at uk.msn.com

Apparently celebrities such as John Mayer are not immune to spending too much time on t’internet.

To get dumped by Jennifer Aniston for tweeting instead of talking to her is pretty stupid in my book.

I’m aware of the irony of posting this on my blog, I probably spend too much time on various websites too.

Oh well, I still quite like some of his music.
